Helping the needy

 Helping the needy

In the book of Exodus we read,

“Do not oppress a foreigner;

you yourselves know how it feels to be foreigners.”

                                                                             Exodus 23:9

In the book of Leviticus we read,

" ‘When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest.

Do not go over your vineyard a second time or pick up the grapes that have fallen. Leave them for the poor and the alien. I am the LORD your God."  Leviticus 19: 9,10

The apostle Paul writes,

"Share with the Lord's people who are in need.

Practice hospitality."

                               Romans 12:13

In the book of James we read,

"What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him?

Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food.

If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it?

In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead." James 14-17

The apostle Paul also writes,

"If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head."Romans 12:20.

According to one source I read,

“...there are over 2,000 verses of Scripture that deal with responding to the needs of the poor.”

As Christians we have an obligation to help the poor anyway we can even if it’s just giving a few coins to someone who’s homeless and begging on the street.

Jesus said,

"So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets" Matthew 7:12.

If you were without food, clothing, shelter, health care, money, would you not want people to help you?

So what are you doing?

Are you doing what you can to help those in need around you?

Please think about it

Have you received?

 Have you received?

In Philippians we read,

To our God and Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen.”

                                                                                 Philippians 4:20.

Can you say this in all honesty?

Is God your Father?

The apostle Paul writes,

"He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him.

He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.

Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—  children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.” John 1:10-13.

Have you received Jesus into your heart?

Please think about it.

Jesus The Heigh Priest

 Jesus The Heigh Priest

In the book of Hebrews we read,

"Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin.  Hebrews 4:14,15.

As believers in Christ Jesus we have “a great high priest”.

A high priest who has been tempted in every way.

When we stand before God on judgement day, we can never say He didn’t understand what it was like to be human and tempted. The reason he came to earth and went through everything a person could go through.

Jesus was a refugee his family, while he was an infant having to run to Egypt to save his life.

Jesus was a carpenter and thus knew what it was to do hard work. He attended weddings. Had many friends and followers.

Simply by living on the earth he would know what it was experience the mundane like the smell of dusty road after it rained. He would have felt the sun and rain on his face.

At the same time he experienced the pain of being whipped and nailed to a cross.

Through all of this he acted as a man. As such unlike an earthly high priest he could sympathize with us in our weakness.

Additionally while going through his life he lived a life without sin.

This is the one all who claim to be Christians, followers of Christ Jesus, serve, worship and honour.

Do you do this?

Please think about it.

Confession

 Confession

The apostle John writes,

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives." 1John 1:9-10.

We are all sinners. No one is perfect. We all do something each day that are wrong. Things that fall far short of what God wants for our lives. That’s why we need to look to God daily and confess our sins. For it is by Gods grace that we get to heaven. The apostle Paul writing,

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast." Ephesians 2:8,9.

Christians believe that we cannot live a life good enough to enter heaven. That is why He sent Jesus to die for our sins. The apostle Paul writing,

"But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8.

For us to receive forgiveness we first need to believe in God. The writer of Hebrews stating,

"And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him." Hebrews 11:6.

Do you believe this?

Please think about it.

What God asks of the believer

What God asks of the believer

In the book of Micah we read,

“He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." Micah 6:8.

These words couldn’t be more direct. God is asking us to,

Act justly.

To Love mercy.

To walk humbly with God.

If you are a believer in Christ Jesus. Are you doing this?

Please think about it.

How about you?

 How about you?

The Psalmist writes,

"I will extol the LORD at all times;

his praise will always be on my lips.

My soul will boast in the LORD;

let the afflicted hear and rejoice.

Glorify the LORD with me;

let us exalt his name together."

                                        Psalm 34:1-3.

If nothing else the New Testament shows Jesus and his apostles experienced all that it is to be human. They attended weddings. The followed the rules set down in the Torah. They interacted with people of all walks of life.

They were also beaten, thrown in prison all but one dying for their faith. Yet through all of this they praised God. They praised him not only in the good times, but after they’d been beaten and while they were in prison.

They praised God because they knew that even in their darkest hour God was with them.

How about you, if you profess to be a true Christian, a true follower of Christ Jesus, do you praise God in the good times and in the bad?

Please think about it.

Believe and Confess

 Believe and Confess

The apostle Paul writes,

“That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.

As the Scripture says, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame.”

For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him,  for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” Romans 10:9-13.

This is as simple as it gets. The apostle Paul states that if you “confess with your mouth “Jesus in Lord” and believe in you heart God raised him from the dead you will be saved.

So the question becomes have you done this?

Please think about it.

God gives us a choice

  God gives us a choice

Jesus speaking of Himself said,

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son". John 3:16-18

The sole purpose of Jesus coming to this earth was to save each individual from their sins and to offer each individual the way to heaven. To give each individual a choice.

Jesus saying

..."I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”  John 14:6

A statement you can believe or reject.

What I would say however before you make a decision is to take time to study the New Testament, pray and ask God if it is true.

Please think about it.

You and the golden rule

  You and the golden rule

Jesus said,

“So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets” Matthew 7:12.

As Christians. As believers in Christ Jesus we are called to follow this rule. Think of it this way,

To day that means,

If you are

demonstrating against anyone.

You are telling them

they can demonstrate against you.

If you are

speaking out and trying to restrict the rights of others

given to them by the lawfully elected government.

You are telling others

they can try to restrict your rights.

If you are

imposing your morals on others

however good they may be.

You are telling them

they can impose their morals on you,

even if they are not as good as yours.

If you are

trying to impose your faith on others

rather than presenting your faith.

You are telling others

they can impose their faith on you.

If you are

judging others.

You are telling others

they can judge you in the same way.

If you

are telling the world you are a Christian

You should be telling the world

I love you as Jesus loves you,...

unconditionally.

Please think about it

Joshua's choice

  Joshua’s choice

In the book of Joshua we read,

"Now fear the LORD and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your forefathers worshiped beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD.

But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD." Joshua 24: 14,15.

When we become Christians. True followers of Christ Jesus we are asked to make similar choices to the Israelites. Our Gods in this day and age are different than the Israelites. Our gods are materialism, wealth, sex, and many others. All of which we must be willing to give up when we accept Christ as our saviour.

We must believe in faith that God exists and will help us change our life around.

The writer of Hebrews telling us,

“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” Hebrews 11:6.

Do you believe this?

Do you serve the LORD?

Please think about it.

Are you seeking God?

 Are you seeking God?

In the book of Jeremiah we read,

You will seek me and find me

when you seek me with all your heart.

                                                      Jeremiah 29:13.

Someone, (not me) said,

“Maybe the atheist cannot find God

for the same reason a thief cannot find a policeman.”

                                                                          Author Unknown

We truly have to be searching for God in order to find Him. If we have our minds made up that there is not God. Then we’ll never find Him.

The Psalmist tells us,

"The heavens declare the glory of God;

the skies proclaim the work of his hands."

                                                               Psalm 19:1

         In Psalm 139 we read,

"Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?

If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.

If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast." Psalm 139:7-10.

Abraham Lincoln said,

“I can see how it might be possible for a man to look down upon the earth and be an atheist, but I cannot conceive how he could look up into the heavens and say there is no God.” Abraham Lincoln.

So the question becomes. Are you really searching for God? If so where are you looking for Him?

Please think about it.

Something very hard

 Something very hard

In the book of Hebrews we read,

"Now faith is being sure of what we hope for

and certain of what we do not see."

                                                                Hebrews 11:1

"And without faith it is impossible to please God,

because anyone who comes to him must believe

that he exists

and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him."

                                                                            Hebrews 11:6.

Faith in anything can be a hard thing. Yet scientist do it all the time. They see something is happening and come up with a theory as to what is causing it. Many such theorise are not solved in the scientist life time. Even Einstein went to the grave having some of what he postulated unproven. Still he knew from what was happing that his theory was correct.

It’s the same with those who believe in God. The Psalmist states,

"The heavens declare the glory of God;

the skies proclaim the work of his hands."

                                                                 Psalm 19:1

Robert Brault stated.

"God left so many fingerprints at the scene of Creation that you wonder — does He want to be found, or does He want to be stopped?" Robert Brault.

We only have to look around us to see Gods handiwork. The universe from the greatest galaxy to the smallest subatomic particle are mathematically perfect. Arranged in such away that life as we know it can exist.

This tells me there is a Creator God who made it all.

Still that being said it requires faith to believe this, and that is for many a very hard thing.

Please think about it.

Bet without hesitation

  Bet without hesitation

The apostle Paul wrote,

“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” 1 Corinthians 1:18.

Simply put this is the unapologetic view of Christians. We believe the words of Jesus as quoted in John’s gospel.

“Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”  John 14:6.

If we as Christians are wrong then no one has anything to fear. If we are right then the rest of the world has at the very least something very important to think about.

Blaise Pascal wrote,

"Belief is a wise wager. Granted that faith cannot be proved, what harm will come to you if you gamble on its truth and it proves false? If you gain, you gain all; if you lose, you lose nothing. Wager, then, without hesitation, that He exists." Blaise Pascal

Please think about it.

Clowns entertaining goats?

  Clowns entertaining goats?

          Jude writes,

"But, dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold.

They said to you, "In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires."

These are the men who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit.

But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit.

Keep yourselves in God's love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.

Be merciful to those who doubt;  snatch others from the fire and save them; to others show mercy, mixed with fear—hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh." Jude 1:17-23

The apostle Peter also states something similar writing,

"First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires" 2 Peter 3:3.

The apostle Paul also warns,

"For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.

They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths." 2Timothy 4:3,4

Charles H. Spurgeon wrote,

"A time will come when instead of the shepherds feeding the sheep. The church will have clowns entertaining the goats." Charles H. Spurgeon.

This is happening in the church today. Now I can only speak to the actions of the church here in North America where I live. But many calling themselves Christians are perverting the scriptures to say what they want them to say. What they feel their congregations want to hear. A watered down gospel with little substance.

The apostles knew that such a time would come that’s why they wrote what they did to forewarn the church. That’s why when Paul writing to Timothy wrote,

"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.

Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly.” 2Timothy 2:15-16

So where do you stand? Are you a clown entertaining the goats or are you truly doing your best to be a workman approved of God?

Please think about it.

Chariots horses or God

  Chariots horses or God?

The Psalmist writes,

"I love you, O LORD, my strength.

The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;

my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge.

He is my shield and the horn of my salvation,

my stronghold."

                             Psalm 18:1,2

In Psalm 20 we read,

“Some trust in chariots and some in horses,

but we trust in the name of the LORD our God”

                                                              Psalm 20:7.

Where I your trust? Do you trust in your own power or in God’s power? It is a question we must all answer.

So I ask you whom do you truly trust in the good times and in the bad times, is it in God or something else?

Please think about it.

The reality of God

 The reality of God

Jesus said,

"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened." Matthew 7:7,8.

In the book of Hebrews we read,

“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” Hebrews 11:6

You must have faith that there is a God in order to find Him. If you say emphatically there is no God. More likely than not you will not even search for Him or evidence of His existence.

Ben Zion Bokser wrote,

"I have not seen the robin but I know he is there because I heard him singing through my window from the tree-top outside.

I have not seen God.  But I have looked at my child's eyes, and have been overwhelmed by the miracle of unfolding life.

I have watched the trees bedeck themselves with new garbs of green in the spring, and have been stirred by the miracle of continual rebirth.

I have looked at the stars, and have been overcome by the miracle of the grandeur and majesty of the universe.

I know that God exists, because I have heard the song of His presence from all the tree-tops of creation."

For me it is inconceivable that the universe we live in was not made by God." Ben Zion Bokser

The Psalmist said,

"The heavens declare

Can you see God?

 Can you see God?

The Psalmist writes,

"The fool says in his heart,

"There is no God."

                                          Psalm 14:1.

C.S. Lewis makes this observation,

“Supposing there was no intelligence behind the universe, no creative mind. In that case nobody designed my brain for the purpose of thinking. It is merely that when two atoms inside my skull happen, for physical or chemical reasons, to arrange themselves in a certain way, this gives me, as a by-product the sensation I call thought.

But if so, how can I trust my own thinking to be true? It's like setting a milk jug and hoping that the way it splashes itself will give you a map of London. But if I can't trust my own thinking, of course I can't trust the arguments leading to Atheist or anything else.

Unless I believe in God, I cannot believe in thought: so I can never use thought to disbelieve in God" C. S. Lewis The case for Christianity.

Dr. Arno Penzias states

"Astronomy leads us to a unique event, a universe which was created out of nothing, one with a very delicate balance needed to provide exactly the conditions required to permit life and one which has an underlying (one might say ‘supernatural') plan." Dr. Arno Penzias 1978 Nobel Prize winner in Physics

So dear reader where do you stand? Do you believe in God?

Please think about it.

Failure to recognize God

  Failure to recognize God

"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." Genesis 1:1

The Bible does not debate the existence of God. It was written to believers who accept by faith God exists. Therefore no explanation is necessary.

The writer of Hebrews stating,

“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.”  Hebrews 11:1

“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” Hebrews 11:6

Abba Hillel Silver said this about God and we humans. He wrote,

"Faith in God is the strongest bulwark of a free society.  Human freedom began when men became conscious that over and above society and nature there is a God who created them...who fashioned them in His likeness, and that they are, therefore, possessed of intrinsic and independent significance and are endowed, as individuals, with original and irrevocable rights and authority." Abba Hillel Silver.

Without the recognition of God or failure of a society to fear God bad things happen. We only have to look at Nazi Germany under Hitler and his henchmen. These men and those who followed them did not fear God. Which ultimately led to the death of sixty plus million deaths in the worst conflagration in human history.

In Ecclesiastes we read.

"Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.

For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil." Ecclesiastes12:13,14.

So when you stand before God what will He say to you?

Please think about it.

Love Justice Humility,

 Justice, Love, Humility

The Prophet Micah writes,

“He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God?” Micah 6:8

Micah’s message here could not be more clear. As believers we are to...

Do Justice.

Love Kindness.

Walk humbly with God.

Question!

Are you doing this?

Please think about it.

You, God, and Judgement

  You, God and Judgement

The Psalmist writes,

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” Psalm 139:13-16

What this portion of scripture tells me is that God knows you intimately. God knows you right down to the DNA level. He knows exactly why you are the way you are. That is why only He can judge you. That is one of the reasons, I believe, Jesus tells us,

“Do not judge, or you too will be judged.”  Matthew 7:1

We as mere mortals cannot judge another person especially when it comes to where they will spend eternity, simply because we do not know why a person is as the way they are.

That being said, apostle Paul noted the only people we are allowed to judge are those who claim to be Christians, Paul writing,

"What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside?  God will judge those outside. "Expel the wicked man from among you." 1 Corinthians 5:12,13.

Please think about it.

Are you willing to Kiss His feet?

Are you willing to kiss His feet?

Luke’s gospel records this

“Jesus answered him, "Simon, I have something to tell you." "Tell me, teacher," he said.

"Two men owed money to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.

Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he cancelled the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?"

Simon replied, "I suppose the one who had the bigger debt cancelled." "You have judged correctly," Jesus said.

Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, "Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair.

You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet.

You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet.

Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—for she loved much. But he who has been forgiven little loves little."

Then Jesus said to her, "Your sins are forgiven." Luke 7:40-48.

We need to be like the woman who washed and kissed Jesus’ feet.

We need to realize how much God through Jesus truly did for us. So much so that we worship Him and thank with our whole heart.

Question !

Is this the kind of Love you show toward Jesus?

Are you willing to kiss the feet of Jesus?

Please think about it.

The heavens and the skies

  The heavens and the skies

"How many are your works, O LORD!

In wisdom you made them all;

the earth is full of your creatures."

                                                                Psalm 104:24.

George Washington Carver said,

"I love to think of nature as an unlimited broadcasting station, through which God speaks to us every hour, if we will only tune in." George Washington Carver.

Sadly there are many in the world that don’t “tune in”. These are men and women who refuse, no matter how good the evidence choose to ignore what the Psalmist states,

"The heavens declare the glory of God;

the skies proclaim the work of his hands."

                                                                  Psalm 19:1.

They don’t even believe the scientists

Dr. Arno Penzias,

"Astronomy leads us to a unique event, a universe which was created out of nothing, one with a very delicate balance needed to provide exactly the conditions required to permit life and one which has an underlying (one might say ‘supernatural') plan."Dr. Arno Penzias 1978 Nobel Prize winner in Physics

William Philips,

“I believe in God more because of science than in spite of it" William Philips Nobel prize winner in Physics states,

Werner Heisenberg states,

“The first gulp from the glass of natural science will make you an atheist,

but at the bottom of the glass God is waiting for you” Werner Heisenberg. father of Quantum Mechanics, Nobel prize winner in Physics

Even Stephen Hawking arguably one of the brightest minds of the twentieth century said,

“The universe and the laws of physics seem to have been specifically designed for us" Stephen Hawking.

That being said believing in God is an act of faith. And for many having faith in anything particularly God is a very difficult thing.

Please think about it.

Christian you are

  Christian you are

The apostle Peter writes,

"But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

Dear friends,

I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul.

Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us." 1 Peter 2:9-12.

Question.

If you claim to be a Christian.

A true follower of Christ Jesus.

Are you doing this?

Please think about it.

Which Characteristics

  Which characteristics

The apostle Paul wrote,

“The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires.

Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” Galatians 5:19-25

Here the apostle Paul shows how you can tell a true believer in Christ Jesus from one who is only giving lip service. He notes sinful acts are obvious

“sexual immorality,

impurity and debauchery;

idolatry and witchcraft;

hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage,

selfish ambition,

dissensions, factions and envy;

drunkenness, orgies,

and the like.”

Then he points to the fruit of the spirit.

love, joy,

peace,

patience, kindness,

goodness, faithfulness,

gentleness and self-control.

Which of these characteristics are evident in your life?

Which of these characteristics are evident in the religious or secular leaders you choose to follow?

As believers in Christ we need to pray and ask God to show us how we can experience more of the fruit of the spirit in our life.

At the same time we need to ask God to show us what Characteristics are being shown in the life of the leaders we follow be they religious leaders or political leaders.

Please think about it.

On that day

  On that day

"Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

"Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?'

Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'" Matthew 7:21-23.

Will you hear these words? Will the pastor, evangelist, or teacher you listen to and follow hear these words?

Jesus is saying here there will be many who stand before Him on judgement day who claim to have performed miracles. Who claim to have prophesied. Men and women who at first glance by the average person may have seemed to do many things for God but are not Christians.

Such people can, I believe, mislead people. Leading them away from God. The apostle Paul writing,

"For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.

They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths." 2Timothy 4:3,4.

This is happening today. That is why all who claim to be Christians. All who claim to be followers of Christ Jesus need to study the scriptures for themselves. Need to pray and seek God guidance. Then as someone has said, “Put legs on their prayers and start working for God and helping those around them to the extent that they are able.

Doing Gods Work

  Doing Gods Work

Jesus said,

“They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’ He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’” Matthew 25:44-45.

Here’s a warning to Christians and to all who have the ability to help the poor. Jesus makes it clear helping the poor is part of serving God.

It has always been my belief that if you are a true Christian you cannot turn away from the needs of the poor.

Our faith in Christ Jesus compels us to help anyone we can.

So if you claim to be a true follower of Christ Jesus are you doing what you can to help the poor?

Please think about it.

As Aliens

 As Aliens

The apostle Paul writes,

I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Saviour, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all men—the testimony given in its proper time.  1 Timothy 2:1-6.

Here the apostle Paul tells us to make requests, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving for everyone. For kings and those in authority.

Note here Paul dose not say pray and expect the governments agree with us. Remember we live in a largely non-Christian world. The governments of this world are for the most part secular or have as their base other faiths. There are no Christian governments in the world today.

The best I believe Christians can hope for is to live at peace with them. To live quiet lives of godliness and holiness so that we can present our beliefs to others.

The apostle Peter tells us,

“Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul.

Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.” 1 Peter 2:11,12.

Are you doing this?

You are the light of the world

You are the light of the world

Jesus said,

"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.

Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.

In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:14-16.

Notice here Jesus says “you are the light of the world”. It is the Christian, the true believer in Christ Jesus that is the light of the world. It is the individual believer who is responsible for taking the light of the gospel to the world. Francis of Assisi wrote,

"Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace.

Where there is hatred, let me sow love,

Where there is injury, pardon;

Where there is doubt, faith;

Where there is despair, hope;

Where there is darkness, light;

And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek

to be consoled as to console,

to be understood as to understand,

to be loved, as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive,

It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,

and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life."

                                                                          Francis of Assisi

Are you a true instrument of God?

Please think about it.

Love for our brothers and sisters

Love for our brothers and sisters

"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."John 13:34,35.

Do you love your brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus? Do you love them by God’s standard. The apostle Paul wrote the definition of Christian love when he wrote,

"Love is patient, love is kind.

It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

It is not rude, it is not self-seeking,

it is not easily angered,

it keeps no record of wrongs.

Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails....

And now these three remain:

faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."

                                                                    1 Corinthians 13:4-8a,13,

So do you love in the way God wants you to love?

Please think about it.

What is your sermon saying?

  What is your Sermon saying?

The apostle Paul wrote,

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”  Galatians 5:22,23.

If you claim to be a Christian, a true follower of Christ Jesus are the above fruit of the Spirit showing in your life?

When those around you look at your life are they seeing love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control?

If not they should be, because it is only by showing these qualities that we will attract people to Christ.

Perhaps one of my favourite quotes from outside the Bible come from Francis of Assisi who said,

"The deeds you do

may be the only sermon some persons will hear today"

                                                                                Francis of Assisi

What is your sermon telling others?

Please think about it.

Our Duty to God

 Our duty to God

“Sing to the LORD a new song;

sing to the LORD, all the earth.

Sing to the LORD,

praise his name;

proclaim his salvation day after day.

Declare his glory among the nations,

his marvellous deeds among all peoples.”

                                                    Psalm 96:1-3

Jesus said,

"Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,  and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Matthew 28:18-20.

Whether you are a follower of Christ Jesus or not. I feel it is important to know that followers of Christ Jesus have a duty before God to tell others about the saving grace that comes through Christ.

Jesus speaking of himself said,

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him." John 3:16,17.

The apostle Paul writes,

"for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.”  Romans 3:23,24.

This is the message God wants believers in Christ Jesus to hear and believe.

So the question becomes, Do you believe that Jesus is the Son of God the Saviour of all who would believe in Him?

Please thin about it.
