What will they say?

  What will they say?

The apostle John speaking of Jesus said,

"Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name,

he gave the right to become children of God—

children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will,

but born of God."

                            John 1:12,13

The poet wrote,

Where are the people?

Where?

Are they but shadows in the mall?

Are they?

Are they shadows in time?

Shadows wandering looking for the latest trinkets, bobbles and beads?

What is life?

What?

Is life but a wisp of smoke carried in the air?

A wisp in the eternal aether?

Are people wisps of smoke?

What of man's or woman's!

 accomplishments?

What of them?

Is the sum total of all ones life simply a pile of shinny tin, brass, and wood?

Is that life?

Is life simply a cacophony of sounds travelling through endless time destined to end?

Is it?

Is life a finite opera?

An opera played out on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam?

Are we as Shakespear said simply actors?

Does life end?

No!

No!

Life is real!

Played out before God.

In a world suspended between Heaven and Hell

We,

 While mere mortals here.

Are really eternal beings.

Waiting to stand before God.

Are you ready to stand before God?

Are you?

What is the sum total of your life?

What?

Individuals lives in deeds,

What will your deeds say about you?

What will "they" say about you when you pass on?

What will God say?

Please think about it.

A forgotten verse

  A forgotten verse

In the book of Exodus we read,

"You shall have no other gods before me."

                                                                              Exodus 20:3.

This verse in Exodus is perhaps the most forgotten verse in the Bible here in North America.

North America is full of God’s. God’s even those calling themselves Christians pastors and evangelist, worship false gods. God’s like Materialism, money, political parties and political leaders.

In the United States many even put the constitution and the bill of rights ahead of or equal to God. This should not be so.

While Christians in the United states have wonderful freedoms, and the United States constitution and bill of rights are noble documents. They are not equal to the Bible in any way.    AND the Bible never promised Christians any form of rights, within any nation or society on earth.

If you consider yourself a Christian a true follower of Christ Jesus, you need to look at what you worship. At what you put ahead of God or equal to Him.

They need to do this because Jesus said,

"Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshippers the Father seeks.

God is spirit, and his worshippers must worship in spirit and in truth." John 4:23-24.

So my questions to you if you claim to be a Christian is;

1/ Do you put anything ahead of God?

2/ Do you truly worship God in Spirit and in truth?

Please think about it.

There is a question

  There is a question

The apostle John writes,

“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers.

If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him?

Dear children,

let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.” 1 John 3:16-18.

There is a question I’ve always wanted to ask rich people and politicians and even rich evangelist and pastors;

Are you doing your best to help those in need?

Are you at least using a part of your wealth along with what political power you have to help the poor?

The same question should be considered by those of us who may not be rich but have a good standard of living, because we can all give something.

Tony Campolo the American evangelist make a good point when he states,

"These issues are biblical issues: to care for the sick, to feed the hungry, to stand up for the oppressed. I contend that if the evangelical community became more biblical, everything would change." Tony Campolo.

Think about it.

A Statement

  A statement

The writer of Hebrews states,

“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for

and certain of what we do not see.”

                                            Hebrews 11:1

“And without faith it is impossible to please God,

because anyone who comes to him

must believe that he exists

and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”

                                                               Hebrews 11:6

For some Christians the word FAITH means,

Forsaking

All

Take

Him.

Faith is a very personal thing. You cannot force people to have faith in anyone or anything they must make that decision for themselves.

For a true follower of Christ, faith in Christ means we will follow him to our grave. No matter what the circumstances.

A true believer in Christ understands the words of the Apostle Paul who wrote,

“Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us; if we are faithless, he will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself.” 2 Timothy 11-13.

Please think about it.

Not a clever story

 Not a clever story

The apostle Peter writes,

“We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

For he received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”

We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain.” 2 Peter 1:16-18.

I have been a believer in Jesus Christ for over forty years now. In that time I have heard people say God does not exist. People have told me Jesus is a myth. Some while admitting Jesus lived said he was no more than a good man.

Nothing could be further from the fact. Jesus is real. He is everything Christians believe him to be, the Son of God, Saviour of mankind, God incarnate.

If Jesus is simply a man then the apostles and Jesus himself have created the greatest lie in history.

C. S. Lewis in he book Mere Christianity said of Jesus,

“I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept his claim to be God.

That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic — on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg — or else he would be the Devil of Hell.

You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse.

You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God, but let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.” C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity.

Thus the question becomes. Who do you think Jesus is.

Please think about it.

Your faith Your works

   Your faith Your works

In the book of James we read,

"What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him?

Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food.

If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it?

In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

But someone will say, "You have faith; I have deeds." Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do.

You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.

You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless?" James 2:14-20

Thus the question becomes, is your faith leading you to do good works?

Please think about it.

Will He be able to say

Will He be able to say

The Apostle John writes,

"The elder,

To my dear friend Gaius, whom I love in the truth.

Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.

It gave me great joy to have some brothers come and tell about your faithfulness to the truth and how you continue to walk in the truth.

I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.

Dear friend, you are faithful in what you are doing for the brothers, even though they are strangers to you.

They have told the church about your love. You will do well to send them on their way in a manner worthy of God.  3 John 1-6.

Here the apostle John commends Gaius for continuing to walk in the truth. He states,

"I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth."

Question;

If you consider yourself a true follower of Christ Jesus. If Christ were to appear to you today would He be able to say He is joyful that you are walking in the truth?

Please think about it.

Beware of the Peddler Preacher

  Beware of the Peddler Preacher

The apostle Paul writes,

“Unlike so many, we do not peddle the word of God for profit. On the contrary, in Christ we speak before God with sincerity, like men sent from God.”2Corinthians 2:17.

In Pauls day there were men that preached Gods word for profit. Paul did not do this. He was a tent maker. He was what we today would call a bi-vocational pastor. He preached the word of God without asking for any remuneration.

Now I can understand paying a pastor or evangelist a living wage. One that allows him to support himself and his family. A wage that allows him to concentrate on administering the word of God. There is also nothing wrong with a pastor who is a millionaire providing he came by it honestly.

What I can’t see is these millionaire evangelist who promise riches if you give to their ministry. Promises they never keep. Making it worse by blaming it on the believers lack of faith.

I believe these preachers should be held accountable in this world. I believe they should be asked to give away at least half their wealth to the poor.

I believe every miracle healing they claim to have done should be fact checked and if proven false they should be made step down from their ministry.

We make pastors evangelist and church leaders step down for immoral conduct all the time.

To my way of thinking making false claims about healings and becoming rich if we give to their ministries is immoral also. Perhaps more so, as they are praying on the poor and sick.

Please think about it.

Making Disciples

 Making disciples

The apostle Paul wrote,

“Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility toward all men.”Titus 3:1,2.

Here is something many evangelicals here in North America don’t listen to. They don’t listen to it, because they believe the lie that the United States and Canada are Christian nations. Which they are not! In believing this lie they speak out against a duly elected government every time that government does something they object to. Which at times could be considered slander. Especially when they speak out against a duly elected official.

We as Christians are not here to tell a government what to do. Jesus didn’t nor did any of the apostles. They lived within the boundaries set out for them by the Roman government. And while all but one died for their faith. It was their faith they died for. NOT for speaking against the government.

The apostle Paul stated,

“What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church?

Are you not to judge those inside?

God will judge those outside.

Expel the wicked man from among you.” 1 Corinthians 5:12,13.

Jesus gave those who believe in him a clear message, stating,

“Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”Matthew 28:18-20.

Are you doing this?

Please think about it.

A wise son

 A wise son

In the book of Proverbs we read,

“He who gathers crops in summer is a wise son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son.”Proverbs 10:5.

The writer of proverbs reminds us that we should be like the wise son or daughter.

We know that Christ could return at any moment. Thus we should be using this time to not only harvest souls for Christ, but drawing closer to Christ in our daily lives.

Jesus tells this parable,

“And he told them this parable: "The ground of a certain rich man produced a good crop.  He thought to himself, ‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.'

"Then he said, ‘This is what I'll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods.

And I'll say to myself, "You have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry." '

"But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?'

"This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for himself but is not rich toward God." Luke 12:16-21.

As believers in Christ Jesus we need to study the scriptures and draw close to God. While at the same time presenting the Gospel message to those around us.

Please think about it.

Are you ready

Are you ready

In Matthews gospel we see Jesus quoted as saying,

"Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come....

So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.”Matthew 24:42,44.

If you consider yourself a Christian. A believer in Christ Jesus are you prepared for His return?

When He returns will He see you doing His work?

Another question all who believe in Christ Jesus need to consider is Pauls advice to Timothy when he writes,

"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth."  2 Timothy 2:15.

Are you doing this?

Please think about it.

God on your hearts

 God on your hearts

In the book of Deuteronomy we read,

"Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.

These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts.

Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up."Deuteronomy 6:5-7.

I believe the most important thing we can pass on to our children is our love for God. A life based on the love of God may go through many trials and tribulations, but if your life is founded on the love of God, you will always have hope. In Psalm 23 we read,

The LORD is my shepherd,

I shall not be in want.

He makes me lie down in green pastures,

He leads me beside quiet waters,

He restores my soul.

He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,

I will fear no evil,

for You are with me;

Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.

You anoint my head with oil;

my cup overflows.

Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life,

and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

                                                                            Psalm 23

Do you share your faith in God, your faith in Christ with your children?

Is God first in your life?

Please think about it.

Judge those inside

 Judge those inside

The apostle Paul writes,

"We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God."  2 Corinthians 5:20

As Christians, believers in Christ Jesus we are Christ’s ambassadors. An ambassador is one who represents a country in a foreign land. People in that foreign land see the country he or she represents through the words and deeds of the ambassador.

The same is true when it comes to Christians. People look to Christians to correctly represent Christ. Sadly way too many calling themselves Christians are not, or at least their words actions are not correctly representing Christ.

While I know that Christians are told to look to Christ and not a particular evangelist or preacher. Those who are not Christians do not know this. They see someone who claims to be Christian acting badly and say to themselves they want no part of Christianity.

North America and particularly the United States is full of men and women, evangelist and pastors claiming to be Christians that are not.

These men and women are bringing Christ’s name into disrepute. And God will one day judge them. In the mean time it is up to those who love Christ to speak out against false teachers in our midst. We must remember the words of the apostle Paul who said,

"What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside?  God will judge those outside. "Expel the wicked man from among you." 1 Corinthians 5:12,13.

Please think about it.

  Are you willing

The apostle Paul wrote,

“Be joyful in hope,

patient in affliction,

faithful in prayer.”

                      Romans 12:12.

If you claim to be a believer in Christ Jesus do you Pray?

Here’s something to consider,

God gives you 1440 minutes every day.

A good nights sleep takes up 480 minutes.

An average round trip commute to and from work can take 120 minutes.

Work takes up 480 minutes.

That leaves you with 360 minutes.

Thus the question becomes are you willing to tithe ten percent of that time to prayer?

Just 36 minutes each day.

2.5% of all the minutes God gives you each day communing with Him.

Please think about it.

The Christians Pledge

 The Christians Pledge

As a believer in Christ Jesus,

I pledge...

To Love.

I Pledge...

As far as it depends on me...

To live at peace with all people.

I Pledge...

Never, Never, Never! To attack anyone...

Physically, or verbally.

Even if I vehemently disagree with them in any way.

I Pledge...

Never to demean anyone.

No matter their race, their ethnicity, their religion, or their lifestyle.

I Pledge...

As far as humanly possible,

To uphold the dignity of all whom I come in contact with.

I Pledge...

To obey the words of Christ Jesus who said,

“So in everything, do to others what you would have others do to you

for this sums up the law and the prophets.” Matthew 7:12.

Will you take this pledge?

Monday 16 May 2022

I will praise God will you?

I will praise God will you?

The Psalmist writes,

“I will praise you, O LORD, with all my heart;

I will tell of all your wonders.

I will be glad and rejoice in you;

I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.”

                                                                        Psalm 9:1,2.

I will do this because I believe in God.

Do you believe in God?

If so will you take a few moments right now to praise the LORD?

Please think about it.

Sunday 15 May 2022

Only you can decide

  Only you can decide

In the book of Genesis we read,

"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth."

                                                                              Genesis 1:1.

In the gospel of John we read,

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

He was with God in the beginning.

Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.

In him was life, and that life was the light of men....

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. " John 1:1-4,14.

The Bible was written to believers in God and thus does not debate the existence of God. It simply states “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

The New Testament goes even further. It states that the God who made heaven and earth became flesh, became human. It states it as a fact. Again it does not debate this fact because it is written to believers.

That being said anyone who is presented with these facts must decide to themselves if they are true or false.

Is there a God?

Did God create the heavens and the earth?

Did the God who created heaven and earth enter the world He created to show mankind the way to heaven?

Only you can decide this.

Please think about it.

Fighting

  Fighting

The apostle Peter wrote,

"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade kept in heaven for you” 1Peter 1:3-4.

Here is what we as believers in Christ Jesus believe. We believe that God the Father in His great mercy has given us a new birth and living hope, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

This is a key tenant of Christian belief. We believe that God raised Jesus from the dead. Without Christ rising from the dead Christianity is dead.

By believing in Chris Jesus we have and inheritance that can never spoil or fade. An inheritance that is in heaven. One that no one on this earth can take away from us. No matter how hard they try. And many have tried both in the past and today.

Since the earliest days of Christianity men and governments have tried to destroy those who believe in Christ Jesus to no avail.

A poem by and unknown author reads,

Last eve I passed beside a blacksmith’s door,

And heard the anvil ring the vesper chime;

Then, looking in, I saw upon the floor

Old hammers, worn with beating years of time.

“How many anvils have you had,” said I,

“To wear and bater all these hammers so?”

“Just one,” said he, and then, with twinkling eye,

The anvil wears the hammers out, you know.”

And so, thought I, the anvil of God’s Word,

For ages skeptic blows have beat upon;

Yet, though the noise of falling blows was heard,

The anvil is unharmed - and hammers gone.

                                                                 Anonymous.

Perhaps a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the Law an honoured man, standing before the Sanhedrin said it best. As the Sanhedrin were presiding over the trial of two of Christ's apostles he said,

"Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God." Acts 5:38,39.

I would say that with the hindsight of centuries of history Gamaliel was right. Those who are fighting against those who believe in Christ Jesus are fighting against God.

Please think about it.

My Reason

  My Reason

Jesus said,

"So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets" Matthew 7:12.

This verse sums up why I write these blogs. It sums up why I tell people about Jesus.    Someone along time ago, took time to tell me about the Love and salvation that comes through the Grace of God. Which today it the most important thing in my life.

The apostle Paul reminds us,

"for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God," Romans 3:23.

That sinning is falling short of Gods ideals.

The Apostle Paul noting,

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—  not by works, so that no one can boast." Ephesians 2:8,9.

That our good works cannot save us. It is our faith in God and the Salvation God grants to all who would believe in Christ Jesus.

They noted Jesus speaking of himself said,

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” John 3:16,17.

They also noted that I have a freewill to believe or not believe what is said in the Bible. That they have no right to judge me for what I believe.

That their obligation to God was to simply tell me of the Love of God that comes through Christ Jesus. Whether I believe it or not is entirely up to me.

Thus I leave what I have written for you the reader to decide for yourself if you believe it or not.

Please think about it.

Thursday 12 May 2022

Do you?

  Do you?

The Psalmist writes,

"Say among the nations, "The LORD reigns." The world is firmly established, it cannot be moved; he will judge the peoples with equity.

"Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let the sea resound, and all that is in it;

"let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them. Then all the trees of the forest will sing for joy; they will sing before the LORD, for he comes, he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples in his truth." Psalm 96:10-13.

It is I believe the duty of all who believe in Christ Jesus. All who believe in the Lord God Almighty to tell the world around them God exists. Not only that but tell them that the Lord will one day Judge the world.

Jesus speaking of Himself states,

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son". John 3:16-18.

Jesus makes it clear that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.

The apostle John writes,

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives." 1John 1:9-10.

The way to heaven at first glance seems simple enough. The apostle Paul stating,

"That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.

As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame."  For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him,  for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."Romans 10:9-13.

That being said it can be very difficult to believe in your heart in someone or something that you cannot see, or feel.

Then perhaps that is Gods reason asking us to have faith in something. For He knows that those who have faith in anything are the strongest of believers. Men and women who will go through anything to honour and serve Him.

Do you believe in God? Do you believe in Christ Jesus, The Son of God, Saviour of the world?

Please think about it.

Wednesday 11 May 2022

Would you stand?

  Would you stand?

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” Psalm 139:13-16.

Every now and then I like to poke Christians and others with a pointy stick this is one of those days. Thus I present to you the story of Margaret Elizabeth.

“That morning, Margaret Elizabeth got up extra early, readying herself for the day.  She would get only one chance to make a good impression.  To that end, she applied her makeup with extra care.  Chose the black ankle length wraparound skirt, white turtle neck top and black jacket, her children had given her as a gift, while in hospital.  She limited her jewelry to a simple pair of diamond studied earrings, that had been her grandmother’s and small bracelet given to her by her daughter-in-law.

Leaving that office, to walk to the pulpit was the hardest step, she ever had to make.  Her heart pounded and by the time, she stood behind the pulpit she was visibly shaking.

“Ladies and gentlemen, my name is Margaret Elizabeth Williamson and just before Christmas, I underwent Sexual Reassignment Surgery.” she said relief surging through her body, as silence engulfed the assembly.

I know that many of you, maybe uncomfortable with that.  That is why I have asked to speak to you, to give you my testimony and then allow you to ask questions.

I have felt like a woman trapped in a man’s body for my entire life.  I was married for over thirty years to a wonderful and accepting woman, who died several years prior to my coming to this assembly.  I have a wonderful family, all of whom support me and are here today.

Believe me, I did not choose this course of action lightly.  I did so after much personal anguish and a great deal of prayer.

For a little over two years prior to my complete transition, I have lived my life as a woman: I was doing so when I came to this church and I think I did it well enough that no one knew.  If so they did not commented.

I have no apologies to give for what I did, or who I am, because I do not believe I did anything wrong.

I accepted Jesus as my Saviour over forty-five years ago, and asked Him to remove from me what at times, has been a difficult burden.  He has chosen not to and thus, I have accepted that I am what I am.  A child of God, who knew me according to the Psalms in my mother’s womb.

I have no intentions of preaching a sermon here today, only to ask you to accept me as I am.  In fact, the only reason I stand before you today, is because I was asked to come onto the staff of this church and wish to be completely honest with you.

Now, I will open the door to all questions and endeavor to answer them to the best of my ability.  Nothing is off limits. After the questions, pastor will ask for a vote and abide by your decision.”

There were many questions. Finally however, the question answered, the pastor came to the front.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, it is now time to take a vote.”  He said.  “If you wish Margaret Elizabeth to become a part of our pastoral staff, please rise to your feet.”

Thus my question to you the reader. Would you rise to your feet?

Please think carefully and prayerfully about it.

Mercy and you

  Mercy and you?

In the book of James we read.

"Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom,  because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment!" James 2:12,13.

I am talking now to those who claim to be Christians. Those who claim they believe in Christ Jesus.

Are you merciful?

Do you judge people by their faith, race, or lifestyle?

You shouldn’t. That is not your job. Your job is to show the love and mercy to those around you. Not to judge them.

I like what the late evangelist Billy Graham said. Referring to Christians he said,

“It is the Holy Spirits Job to Convict,

God's job to judge

 and my job to love,”

                         Billy Graham.

You will not win a soul for Christ if you are judging them. You must love them. For only God knows why a person is the way they are.

Please think about it.

Are you showing this love?

  Are you showing this love?

The apostle Paul writes what has to be the definitive definition of love when he writes,

"Love is patient, love is kind.

It does not envy, it does not boast,

it is not proud.

It is not rude,

it is not self-seeking,

it is not easily angered,

it keeps no record of wrongs.

Love does not delight in evil

 but rejoices with the truth.

It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails....

                                             1 Corinthians 13:4-8a

Is this your definition of love. If you are a Christian. A true believer in Christ Jesus, it should be. It should be the kind of love we show to our families, friends and foe alike.

So are you showing this love to those around you?

Please think about it.

Transformation

  Transformation

In the book of Romans the apostle Paul writes,

"Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship.

Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will." Romans 12:1,2.

If we truly accept Jesus into our lives a transformation begins. The speed of the transformation varies in each individual. However be it slow or quick a true believer in Christ will change. They will begin to exhibit what the apostle Paul calls the fruit of the spirit,

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  gentleness and self-control.... Against such things there is no law.  Galatians 5:22,23.

Exhibiting such fruits will become second nature to them. This I believe is one way you can tell a true Christian. A true believer in Christ Jesus.

When people look at your life what do they see?

Please think about it.

Compassion

  Compassion

In the gospel of Luke we read this statement from John the Baptist,

“‘What should we do then?’ the crowd asked. John answered, ‘Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and anyone who has food should do the same.”Luke 3:10,11.

I strongly feel to be a true Christian. A true follower of Christ Jesus, we must do what we can to help the poor. I believe the more we have, the more we should give to help the poor. This is one of the corner stones of Christian living.

You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless?" James 2:14-20.

As Christians, believers in Christ Jesus, I believe God will hold us accountable for our behaviour towards the poor. If you want proof of this read, what Jesus said in Matthew 25:41-43.

"Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.

For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink,

I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.'” Matthew 25:41-43.

True belief in Christ Jesus causes us to have compassion for all those less fortunate than us.

So do you show compassion for those less fortunate than you?

Please think about it.

Difficult not Impossible

 Difficult not impossible.

In Matthew’s gospel we read Jesus saying,

"Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." Matthew 19:24.

This illustration makes the point that while something seems impossible. It can be done through the grace of God.

Earlier in this chapter of Matthew we read,

"Now a man came up to Jesus and asked, "Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life ?"...

Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."

When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. Matthew 19:16,20,21.

Life can be easy if you’re rich. If you have enough money to get anything you want. And there are many rich Christians that use their wealth to help others and the Lords work.

That being said there are many wealthy people who rely on their money. To whom money is a god.

In the wall street economic crash on 1929 men who’d put all their trust in materialism and wealth committed suicide because they’d lost everything. Their god had failed them and in their mind there was nothing left but despair.

Wealth can be a hindrance to getting to heaven. But it is still possible for a wealthy person to get to heaven. They must do exactly what everyone is asked to do. Put your faith in Christ Jesus.

The apostle Paul puts it this way,

"That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.

As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame."

For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him,  for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved Romans 10:9-13.

So do you believe Jesus is Lord? Do you believe that God raised Him from the dead?

Please think about it.

Can you call on Him?

 Can you call on Him?

The Psalmist writes,

“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” Psalm 23:4.

We all go through trials. Both mental and physical. Some trials even end in death.

Still if we are in a personal relationship with Christ Jesus we have Him to turn to. We know that no matter how hard the trial may be God is with us. Comforting and giving us strength to get through it.

In Psalm 139 we read,

“Where can I go from your Spirit?

Where can I flee from your presence?

If I go up to the heavens,

 you are there;

if I make my bed in the depths,

you are there.

If I rise on the wings of the dawn,

if I settle on the far side of the sea,

even there your hand will guide me,

your right hand will hold me fast.”

                                                       Psalm 139:7-10.

Question; Is God an integral part of your life? Can you call on God in your time of need?

Please think about it.

Could you?

 Could you?

Jesus once said to a rich young man who asked the question,

"..."Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life ?" Matthew 19:16

"Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." Matthew 19:21.

As true believers in Christ Jesus we must be willing to give up everything for Him.

Now I can only speak for what I see here in North America from my perch here in Canada.

While I see around the world Christians suffering many living day to day with persecution. Many having to rely on God each day for their basic needs. I sadly see many pastors, evangelist and many sitting in the pews here in North America preaching a prosperity doctrine. Claiming falsely that God wants you to be health and wealthy, while God never promised this.

Sadly many pastors and evangelist who believe this doctrine pray on the poor. Encouraging them to give to their ministry saying God will reward them ten or a hundred fold.

God never promised this. Jesus and His disciples were not rich. The apostle Paul writing,

"For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs." 1 Timothy 6:10.

Note here its not money that causes the problems. Money in and of itself is harmless. It’s what emphasis you put on it that causes the problem. If you love money more than God.

Jesus in Matthew 19:21 gave the perfect test to see who you liked most. When he said,

“If you want to be perfect, go sell you possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come follow me.”

Thus I wander how many pastors and evangelist who preach the prosperity doctrine could do what Jesus is saying here?

How about you dear reader? Could you give up everything to follow Jesus?

I know of many around the world who have had to do that. Could you?

Please think about it.

Searching for

  Searching for

The apostle Paul writes,

“But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days.  People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God” 2 Timothy 3:1-4.

In his book "Essentials in Christian Faith" John B. Harrington, published in 1958, there is a quote that could have been written yesterday.

It's from Paul Gallico in Esquire Magazine in 1948:

"A writer in a popular magazine has written the following words; 'We are all, if you will pardon the expression, Headed for Hell in a handbarrow. If, ever the people of the world stood in need of a spiritual revival, it is now. We are beginning to poison the face of the earth with our miserable presence. The brakes are off. The cart of the world is sliding down the way greased with hatred, ambition, lies, self-seeking and avarice toward the pit.'"

Harrington notes that Gallico makes no pretense of being "a religious man" noting that "...for him it is precisely religion in its organized forms which has in part caused the situation he deplores. He is careful to state that it is not "religion" for which he is looking. For in his opinion, religion throughout the history of our culture has advanced its control over human beings by the investment of bigotry and persecution.

Yet, out of despair over the current human situation he says; ‘The voice for which my heavy spirit is yearning must reach us all... For if it is not heard, we are lost. Something beyond our material enrichment and lust for power and position, some rewards founded on good will, selflessness, and the innate dignity of the human spirit...honour, humility, decency courage."

Now I can only speak for what I see in North America where I live, and sadly I see Christianity becoming "religious". At least I see many pastors, evangelist, and many sitting in the pews becoming religious.

This is what the apostle Paul predicted in 2Timothy 3:1-4. Sadly such people are becoming the face of Christianity here in North America. And what Gallico and others are seeing.

The solution to the problem. The only solution is a personal relationship with Christ Jesus. Putting God first in ones life. Making the teachings of Jesus a reality in ones life. When we do so we will begin to exhibit what the apostle Paul calls the fruit of the spirit,

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

gentleness and self-control.... Against such things there is no law.”  Galatians 5:22,23.

This is what Gallico was searching for, and I believe what many in the world today are searching for also.

Dear reader are you looking for this? Why not take a moment to ask Jesus into your life. Simply pray

Dear Jesus I ask that you come into my life today.

If you said this prayer and truly believe what you said. I would ask that you start reading the New Testament at the very least. It will tell you what the early Christians believed about Jesus and how to live a Godly life. The second is do your best to find a church congregation near where  you live. I recommend a Baptist or Salvation Army. Talk to the pastor and ask him any questions you might have.

Please think about it.

As for me

  As for me

In the book of Joshua we read,

"Now fear the LORD and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your forefathers worshiped beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD.

But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living.

But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD." Joshua 24: 14,15.

For me this sums things up. I and my household will serve the Lord.

I will as the Psalmist puts it,

I will praise you, O LORD, with all my heart;

I will tell of all your wonders.

I will be glad and rejoice in you;

I will sing praise to your name, O Most High."

                                                              Psalm 9:1,2.

Dear reader will you join with me this day in serving and praising The LORD God Almighty?

Please think about it.

Perhaps

 Perhaps

In Proverbs we read,

"For a man's ways are in full view of the LORD,

and He examines all his paths."

                                                      Proverbs 5:21.

Whether we like to admit it or not everything we do is seen by God. It is something we must remember.

That being said I don’t see God as a big old man with a big stick ready to club us over the head if we do wrong. Quite the opposite. I see God as a God who loves each individual and gives them all the freedom in the world. A freedom that extends to not believing in Him.

The God I believe in is spoken of by Jesus in John 3:16,17, when Jesus states,

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” John 3:16,17.

The God I believe in is spoken of by the apostle Paul who said,

"But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8.

The God I believe in asks us to have faith that He exists. The writer of Hebrews stating,

"Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see." Hebrews 11:1

"And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him." Hebrews 11:6.

And perhaps having faith in someone we cannot see is the hardest thing anyone can do. Which is perhaps why so many people don’t believe in God.

Do you believe in God?

Please think about it.
