Christian service
Saint Augustine said,
“What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him?
Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food.
If one of you says to him, “Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it?
In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.
But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do.
You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.
You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless?” James 2:14-20.
Christianity is very much a faith of words and deeds. Tony Campolo the American evangelist once said,
“These issues are biblical issues: to care for the sick, to feed the hungry, to stand up for the oppressed. I contend that if the evangelical community became more biblical, everything would change.” Tony Campolo.
Our faith in Christ must spur us on to helping those in need both physically and spiritually.
My question to you who claim to be Christian is, Are you doing all you can personally to help those in need?
Jesus said,
“And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is my disciple, I tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward.” Matthew 10:42.
Are you at least giving someone in need a cup of cold water?
Please think about it.
Saint Augustine said,
Pray as though everything depended on God.
Work as though everything depended on you.
Saint Augustine
Martin Luther King jr. Prayed,
We thank thee for thy Church, founded upon thy Word,
that challenges us to do more than sing and pray,
but go out and work as though the very answer to our prayers
depended on us and not upon thee.
Martin Luther King jr.
