God is Patient

God is Patient
The Apostle Peter writes,
“First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires.
They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.”
But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water.
By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed.
By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.
But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:3-9.
Over the years there have been many who scoffed at the message of Jesus Christ. They have doubted that Jesus will ever return to this earth.
I recently read an account from obviously for lack of a better definition “a sudo-religious” group that said, the apostles failed because they didn’t reach the whole world in their lifetime.
Nothing could be further from the truth. The way I see it God as Peter said, does not want anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
The apostle John records Jesus as saying,
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” John 3:16,17.
Additionally God is using human means to reach the world. He is asking everyone to believe in him through faith.
True God could have revealed Himself in all his glory and majesty to the whole world demanding to be worshipped. That however would not have produced the true followers God wants.
Were God to show himself in all his power it would have cause some people to worship him out of fear for what He could do to them. This is not what God wants.
God wants people of faith. Who worship Him because they believe not only in His power but that He is a God of love and mercy.
Also people who have faith in anything are the strongest of followers they will believe no matter the circumstance.
The writer of Hebrews noting,
“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for
and certain of what we do not see.”
                                                   Hebrews 11:1
“And without faith it is impossible to please God,
because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists
and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”
                                                                          Hebrews 11:6.
It is my belief that the church still has a long way to go in reaching the world around us. The first century church was successful in taking the gospel of Jesus Christ to the world they new. However it was only a fraction of the world that actually existed.
Even today there are people in our midst and around the world who have not heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Thus I believe at least until they have had an opportunity to hear the about the Saving grace God offers the church has a lot to do and not worry when Christ will return.
Please think about it.
