Be Prepared to

  Be Prepared to

The apostle Peter writes,

"But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,"1 Peter 3:15.

As believers in Christ Jesus we must always be aware that Christ should come first in our lives. Not only that but the people around us should see Christ is first in our life without us even telling them.

At the same time we must be prepared to give the reason we believe in Christ Jesus to anyone who asks. And we must do so while showing our respect to the person asking. We must never attempt to force our beliefs on anyone.

If you consider yourself a true believer in Christ Jesus, are you prepared to tell anyone who asks, why you believe in Him?

Please think about it.

Who is Jesus Christ?

 Who is Jesus Christ?

In the Gospel of Matthew we read this conversation between Jesus and the apostle Peter,

"But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?"

Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."

Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. Matthew 16: 15-17.

Here in Peter clearly states who he believes Jesus to be, “the Christ, the Son of the Living God”.

Over and over again the New Testament makes it clear that Jesus is The Son of God. This is unique to Christianity. No other religion in the world claims that their founder is the Son of God.

Thus the way I see it, either Jesus is the Son of God. Or the New Testament is wrong and the apostles and those who believed in Jesus were deceived.

The question is do you believe that the Apostles and all who believed in Jesus mentioned in the Bible were right to believe Jesus is the Son of God or not.

Please think about it.

I Believe Jesus is the Christ.

I Believe Jesus is the Christ

In John’s gospel we read,

"Jesus said to her (Martha), "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies;  and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?"

"Yes Lord" she told Him, "I believe you are the Christ the Son of God, who was to come into the world," John 11:25,26,27.

So what does truly believing that Jesus is “the Christ the Son of God”

The apostles creed while not written by an apostle of Christ puts in a nutshell what Christians believe. It states,

1.I believe in God the Father the almighty maker of heaven and earth

2. I believe in Jesus Christ God's on and only Son, our Lord and Saviour.

3. I believe Jesus was conceived by the Holy Ghost, and born of the Virgin Mary

4. I believe Jesus suffered under Pontius Pilate; That He was Crucified, died, was buried. That he descended in hell.

5. I believe He rose again on the third day from the dead.

6. I believe that he ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father almighty.

7. I believe Jesus will one day Judge the living and the dead.

8. I believe in the Holy Ghost

9. I believe in the Church which is the communion of the saints,

10. I believe in the forgiveness of sin.

11. I believe in the resurrection of the body.

12. I believe in life everlasting.

Do you believe this?

Please think about it.

Follow my Logic

 Follow my Logic

The Psalmist bluntly states,

"The fool says in his heart,

"There is no God."

                                Psalm 14:1.

The way I see it if there is no God then by following the teachings of God in the Bible I have lost nothing. All I have done is lived a good life.

But to say there is no God is to my mind ridiculous.

Think of it this way in order to truly know there is no God, the person would have to know all things and been everywhere. And since knowing all things and being everywhere are attributes of God. The person saying there is no God would in fact be god.

Further more to unequivocally know there is no God one would have to have gone beyond the grave the one place no one living has gone yet. The very place where we would expect to see God.

Voltaire wrote

“To believe in God is impossible, not to believe in Him is absurd.” Voltaire.

Blaise Pascal wrote,

“Belief is a wise wager. Granted that faith cannot be proved, what harm will come to you if you gamble on its truth and it proves false? If you gain, you gain all; if you lose, you lose nothing. Wager, then, without hesitation, that He exists.” Blaise Pascal.

Jesus speaking of Himself said,

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” John 3:16,17.

Please think about it.

They seen with their own eyes

They seen with their own eyes

The apostle John wrote,

"That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life.

The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us.

We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.

We write this to make our joy complete. " 1John 1:1-4.

Here the apostle John who knew Jesus personally states why he is writing his letter.

John sat for three years under the teaching of Jesus. He ate with Jesus. If there was any doubt as to who Jesus was and is, John and the other apostles would have known it. Yet they all believed Jesus was who he claimed to be.

In Marks Gospel we read,

Jesus and his disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked them, "Who do people say I am?"

They replied, "Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets."

"But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?" Peter answered, "You are the Christ.'" Mark 8:27-29.

Notice the apostle Peter says Jesus is the Christ.

In John’s gospel we read this conversation between Martha and Jesus,

"Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies;  and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?"

"Yes Lord" she told Him, "I believe you are the Christ the Son of God, who was to come into the world," John 11:25,26,27.

These people all knew Jesus and believed Him to be “the Christ the Son of God who was come into the world”.

Jesus speaking of himself said,

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son". John 3:16-18.

The apostle all believed what Jesus said. So the question becomes do you believe this? OR has the writers of the New Testament created the greatest lie in all of human history?

Please think about it.

He came to Earth

He came to Earth

In the book of Job we read,

"He spreads out the northern  skies  over empty space; he suspends the earth over nothing." Job 26:7.

Considering Job never went into space he certainly got his description right.

In the book of Genesis we read,

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1.

God placed the earth in the exact spot in the universe for life as we know it to exist. I cannot believe this is purely by chance.

What is more amazing to me is that God in the form of Jesus Christ came into the world He created, John’s gospel stating,

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

He was with God in the beginning.

Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.

In him was life, and that life was the light of men....

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. " John 1:1-4,14.

If this is not true then those who wrote the Bible have created the biggest lie in all of history because at least three billion plus people believe this.

The question however is do you?

Please think about it.

Who do you think Jesus is?

Who do you think Jesus is?

In Marks gospel we see Jesus asking this question,

Jesus and his disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked them, "Who do people say I am?"

They replied, "Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets."

"But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?" Peter answered, "You are the Christ.'" Mark 8:27-29.

Is Jesus The Christ, The Messiah, The Son of God?

Just who do you think Jesus is?

C. S. Lewis answered that question this way,

"I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him (Jesus): I'm ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don't accept his claim to be God. That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic — on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg — or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God, but let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to." C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity.

If Jesus is not The Son of God, God Incarnate. Then Christianity has created one of the greatest lies in all of human history. With billions of people believing that lie.

That being said I believe Jesus is the Son of God, God incarnate. As such everyone who hears about Jesus has a choice to make. A choice Jesus gave when He, speaking about himself said,

Thus the choice is yours. Do you believe Jesus is all He said He is. Do you believe the Gospel message laid down in the New Testament?

Before you answer the question please take time to read the New Testament for yourself and learn what men and women who knew Jesus believed about Him.

Please think about it.

Who is Jesus?

 Who is Jesus

In John’s gospel we read,

"Pilate asked him, ‘So you are a king?' Jesus answered, ‘You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.' Pilate asked him, ‘What is truth?'" John 18:37-38.

Pilot ultimately found no wrong in Jesus. Never the less out of political expediency he allowed Jesus to be put to death.

So who is Jesus to you?

In the book of acts we read of the apostle Peter saying,

"Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ." Acts 2:36.

Jesus himself said,

"Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.  John 14:6

The apostle John writes,

"That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life.

The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us.

We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.

We write this to make our joy complete. " 1John 1:1-4.

This is what men that knew Jesus personally believed Jesus to be. So are they right in what they believe?

What do you think?

Please think about it.

What Peter believed

 What Peter believed

In Mark’s gospel we read,

"Jesus and his disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked them, "Who do people say I am?"

They replied, "Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets."

"But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?" Peter answered, "You are the Christ.'"Mark 8:27-29.

The disciples knew Jesus better than anyone. And here you see Peter stating that Jesus is the Christ. Jesus is the Messiah.

If what Peter said is false then he and the other disciples are responsible for perpetuating potentially one of the most monumental lies in human history. Causing literally billions of people in the world today to believe that lie.

Causing tens of millions of people throughout the centuries to die in vain.

The truth however is Peter was speaking the truth.

Do you believe this?

Please think about it.

With your mouth

  With your mouth

The apostle Paul writes,

"That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.” Romans 10:9,10.

Many people calling themselves Christians are not. True they say Jesus is Lord but its just an intellectual belief. They don’t truly believe it in their heart.

So my question to you is; Do you deep down in your heart believe Jesus is Lord?

Please think about it.

Evidenced in good works

  Evidenced in good works

In the book of James we read,

"What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him?

Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food.

If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it?

In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

But someone will say, "You have faith; I have deeds." Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do.

You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.

You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless? James 2:14-20

Lets make one thing clear according to the apostle Paul,

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast." Ephesians 2:8,9.

James is not speaking against this belief. Rather James is pointing out that true faith in Christ is evidenced in good works.

He points out,

"What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him?"

James notes that simply acknowledging there is a God (having an intellectual acknowledgement that God exists) is not enough as he states, "Even the demons believe that..."

Simply saying to a person who is in need of food, shelter and clothing "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," is not enough. We need to put legs on our prayers and help them as much as we can.

Are you doing what you can to help those in need?

Please think about it.

So you force it or present it?

Do you force it or present it?

We must remember that Jesus said,

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him." John 3:16,17.

That being said the only way we can reach the world around us is to sit down with non-Christians and present the gospel of Christ in the spirit of love.

We cannot do this if they see us as trying to force our beliefs on them. We cannot reach them if they believe we are trying to force our morals on them.

It is not the Christians job to try to impose or get governments to legislate morality.

We live whether Christians wish to acknowledge it or not, in a secular society. There is no such thing as a government based on Christian principles. While some of our laws are indeed based on the Bible many are not.

This means; especially, if we live in a democratically elected free society, that governments will enact legislation that we may not like. But it's not our job to try and change that legislation. That is providing the legislation is not harming people or restricting the rights of Christians and non-Christians.

In a democratic society change is something that takes place in ballot box. Where Christians and non-Christians alike have their say.

The apostle Paul while awaiting his death after being imprisoned by the emperor Nero wrote,

"I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone—  for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness."  1 Timothy 2:1,2.

Paul and Jesus lived in a society that was every bit as diverse as we have today. Roman society was a society that found entertainment in men and women being murdered in gladiatorial fights. A society with many gods and as we would say today lifestyles.

I'm sure when the Apostle Paul entered Athens he was appalled at what he seen. Yet he never criticised the Greeks for what they believed in.

Instead Acts 17:17-34 tells us Paul started by noting there was a temple to "an unknown God". Then going on to present the Gospel message. The results of the message were mixed. Some wanted to hear more. Some sneered at what he said and some believed.

Question: when you tell people about the gospel of Christ do you force it on people or present it, letting them make their minds up for themselves?

Please think about it.

Remember this

  Remember this

"So in everything,

do to others what you would have them do to you,

for this sums up the Law and the Prophets"

                                                                        Matthew 7:12

Put this way it means;

If you are

demonstrating against anyone.

You are telling them

they can demonstrate against you.

If you are

speaking out and trying to restrict the rights of others

given to them by the lawfully elected government.

You are telling others

they can try to restrict your rights.

If you are

imposing your morals on others

however good they may be.

You are telling them

they can impose their morals on you,

even if they are not as good as yours.

If you are

trying to impose your faith on others

rather than presenting your faith.

You are telling others

they can impose their faith on you.

If you are

judging others.

You are telling others

they can judge you in the same way.

If you

are telling the world you are a Christian

You should be telling the world

I love you as Jesus loves you,...

unconditionally.

Please think about it.

Do you reflect Christ?

 Do you reflect Christ?

"Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written,

You shall be holy, for I am holy," 1Peter 1:13-16.

As believers in Christ we are called,

To prepare our minds to work for Christ.

To be sober-minded.

Setting your hope fully on the grace that comes from the revelation of Jesus                          Christ.

Do not conform to the evil desires you had prior to knowing Christ.

Be holy as Christ is holy.

This is a lifestyle. In fact someone has said Christianity is not just a religion "it is a lifestyle."

It is a lifestyle that people will notice even without us saying one word. Francise of Assisi said,

"The deeds you do

may be the only sermon some persons will hear today"

                                                                              Francis of Assisi.

When people see your life, your words and deeds, do they see Christ reflected in it?

Please think about it.

Be Prepared

 Be Prepared

Jesus told this parable,

"At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.

Five of them were foolish and five were wise.

The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them.

The wise, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps.

The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.

"At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here's the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!'

"Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps.

The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.'

" ‘No,' they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.'

"But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.

"Later the others also came. ‘Sir! Sir!' they said. ‘Open the door for us!'

"But he replied, ‘I tell you the truth, I don't know you.'

"Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour." Matthew 25:1-13.

Think about this. If what Jesus is saying here is just a story with no meaning with respect to His return. It doesn’t mean anything.

On the other hand if it is a reference to Christ’s return, which I believe it is, we have a lot to think about.

So are you prepared for the return of Jesus Christ?

Please think about it.

Who do you say He is?

Who do you say He is?

In Marks Gospel we read,

“Jesus and his disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi.

This interaction between Jesus and his disciples make it clear who Jesus is. Jesus is The Christ. The One and only Son of God.

You cannot be a Christian and not believe this statement.

So, who do you believe Jesus is?

Please think about it.

Expel the wicked from among you

Expel the wicked from among you

Jesus said,

"Many will say to me  on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?'

Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'" Matthew 7:22,23.

The other day I found a couple of interesting quotes. One from Lenny Bruce said,

“Every day people are straying away from the church

and going back to God. Really.”

                                      Lenny Bruce, "Religions Inc."

The other is from an unknown author it states,

"I believe in God; I just don't trust anyone who works for him.”

                                                                               Author Unknown

I have met many people who truly believe in God but are turned off by the people who supposedly serve Him.

It’s sad but there are many claiming to be Christians who are not.

The apostle Paul wrote,

“For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.

They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.” 2Timothy 4:3,4.

The apostle Peter states,

“But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves.

Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute.

In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.”2 Peter 2:1-3.

Like I said, there are many in the world today claiming to be Christians who are not. This is especially true in North America where I live.

There are many high profile preachers and evangelist who have twisted the scriptures to say what they want it to say. They have wandered far from the principles of God. What is worse many people are following them blindly to what could end in a Christless eternity.

As believers in Christ Jesus we need to be studying the Bible for ourselves. We need to pray and gain understanding so that we do not fall for false teachings.

Additionally we need to speak out against false teachers in our churches. The apostle Paul said,

"What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside?  God will judge those outside. "Expel the wicked man from among you." 1Corinthians 5:12,13

Please think about it.

Only Turn

  Only Turn

The Psalmist writes,

Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth.

Worship the LORD with gladness;

come before him with joyful songs.

Know that the LORD is God.

It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people,

the sheep of his pasture.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise;

give thanks to him and praise his name.

For the LORD is good and his love endures forever;

his faithfulness continues through all generations.

                                                                                Psalm 100

The Bible is written to believers. It therefor does not debate the existence of God. Believers know that God exists. Believers also recognize that there is a need for God within our society.

Abba Hillel Silver at the height of world war two wrote,

"Faith in God is the strongest bulwark of a free society.

Human freedom began when men became conscious that over and above society and nature there is a God who created them...who fashioned them in His likeness, and that they are, therefore, possessed of intrinsic and independent significance and are endowed, as individuals, with original and irrevocable rights and authority." Abba Hillel Silver.

History has shown us that when people turn from the basic principles God has laid down for mankind, society suffers. We only have to look at world war two to see this. Hitler and his henchmen had no fear of God. They turned away from God and lived by their own rules. The result was world war two, the worst conflict in human history with upwards of 60,000,000 men, women, and children killed senselessly.

The same thing is happening today. There are many terrorist groups around the world that are murdering people. Some even having the audacity to say they are doing it in the name of God.

That being said it is not only terrorist groups doing the killing. On the streets of our cities there are men and women murdering others daily.

The murdering aside. There are many more things happening that are against God’s laws.

The apostle Paul wrote,

“But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days.

People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—”2 Timothy 3:1-4.

This is happening today and our society knows it. And society is looking for solutions to it’s problems. Thus I feel if our society would only turn to God, and worships only Him things will truly change for the better.

Please think about it.

Ambassador for Christ

 Ambassador for Christ

The apostle Paul states,

"We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God."  2 Corinthians 5:20.

The apostle Paul make it clear here. If you are a believer in Christ Jesus you are an ambassador for Christ.

An ambassador is a representative of a country or a king. The ambassador according to the Oxford dictionary is also “a representative or promoter of an activity”.

In the case of a Christian we represent the King of kings and Lord of lords. The activity we promote is that of salvation through Christ Jesus.

We are no ones judge. Jesus specifically saying we are not to judge.

Jesus said,

"Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Matthew 28:18-20.

Jesus speaking of Himself made it clear,

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” John 3: 16,17.

This is what every Christian is called to do. To present the unconditional Love of God through Christ Jesus to anyone who will listen to us.

Are you?

Please think about it.

Kindness and Love of God

  Kindness and Love of God

The apostle Paul wrote,

“But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit” Titus 3:4,5.

Here the apostle Paul points out the love of God. He notes we are saved not because of the righteous things we did. Not because of the good we did but because of Gods mercy toward us.

Paul writing to the Corinthians states,

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—  not by works, so that no one can boast." Ephesians 2:8,9.

Our getting into heaven is entirely due to Gods mercy. Gods Grace. We enter heaven because of our faith in God and in Christ Jesus who died for our sins.

The apostle Paul telling us,

"You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.

Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die.

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:6-8
