Christian Lifestyle
The apostle Peter wrote,
“Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul.  
Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.” 1 Peter 2:11,12.
Dear Christian are you doing what the apostle Peter is telling you to do?
When people look at your life and lifestyle what do they see?

Do people see a life, and lifestyle Jesus would be proud of?  

OR 

Do they see at best a religious imitation of the secular word. 

OR , 

Do they see someone who is insensitive toward people of other faiths and lifstyles? 

OR 

Even worse

Do they see someone who is prejudice or even a bigot? 

What is your life, lifestyle, words and deeds telling the people around you?
Francis of Assisi said two things every Christian needs to consider. He wrote,

“Preach the Gospel at all times and when necessary use words.”

And

“The deeds you do may be the only sermon some persons will hear today” 

Your actions as a professing Christian may and can have eternal consequences. By what you say and do, you will either cause people to at the very least consider comeing to know Christ as their Lord and Saviour, or push them away.
What are you doing?

Jesus said,
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.  
Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’  
Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’” 
                                                                                                                  Matthew 7:21-23.
I firmly believe there are many who attend church that are not Christians. There are many out there that say they are Christians but are not. I believe this is true of everyone from the person who sits in the pew, to pastors and evangelist.
It’s easy to say I believe in Jesus. There are some who can quote huge chapters of the bible but are not Christians. There are those who can tell you all you need to know about how to be saved but are not saved themselves.
I worked with youth for sometime and we always use to say the hardest people to reach were those who’d grown up in the church. They knew when to say something and when not. They knew how to conduct themselves in church. We use to say they knew “church speak”.
Sadly to some church is a social club they have grown up in. A place their grandparents and parents brought them. They have friends in the church and they find it a good place to socialize.
There are others who come simply to feel good. They like the music, the people and the atmosphere at the church they attend.
Both these groups lack a heart knowledge of who Jesus is. They may say they have accepted Christ as their Lord and Saviour but the reality is they have only an intellectual knowledge.
What I wold ask anyone who claims to be a Christian that is reading this is, Are you sure you are going to heaven? Have you truly made Jesus Lord of your life?
Do you believe Jesus when he said,
“...I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

      Do you really believe what the apostle Paul said,
“That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.  
For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.  
As the Scripture says, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame.”  
For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him,  for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved”

The writer of Hebrews states,
“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.”

Is this the kind of faith you have?
Were you to die today are you certain you would enter heaven?

 because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists

Jesus said to Martha

“Jesus said to her, 

“I am the resurrection and the life. 

He who believes in me will live, even though he dies;  

and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. 

Do you believe this?”

“Yes Lord” she told Him, 

“I believe you are the Christ the Son of God, who was to come into the world,”

The above are quotations from the bible that I believe everyone needs to consider irrespective of who they are.
Christianity to my knowledge is the only faith in the world that claims God the creator of the universe came into the world to show mankind the way to heaven.
I know to some this concept is hard to believe but it is at least something each individual needs to think about.
C. S. Lewis said,
“I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept his claim to be God. That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic — on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg — or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God, but let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.”

The apostle Paul wrote,
“That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.  
For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.  
As the Scripture says, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame.”  
For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him,  for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

The above statement makes it clear what Christians believe. We believe Jesus is Lord. That He is God incarnate, God in the flesh. That He is the way to heaven.
We believe that from the beginning of time the God who created heaven and earth is God of all people Jew and gentile alike.
We as Christians believe that anyone who puts their trust in Jesus and confesses Him will be saved. Will spend eternity with God.
We as Christians believe that it is by the Grace of God through our faith that we are saved. The apostle Paul saying,
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—  not by works, so that no one can boast.”
                                                                  Ephesians 2:8,9.
The writer of Hebrews saying,
“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.”

“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.’”

 We also believe that Christians must put actions with their faith. James the brother of Christ stating.
“What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him?  
Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food.  
If one of you says to him, “Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it?  
In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. 
But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do.  
You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder. 
You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless ?  
Was not our ancestor Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar?  
You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made
complete by what he did.  
And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called God’s friend.  
You see that a person is justified by what he does and not by faith alone. 
In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction?  
As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.”
                                                                                                         James 2:14-26.
While faith in Christ saves a person. Christianity is much more than that it is very much a faith of actions of reaching out to the needy, the oppressed and indeed to all people.
Tony Campolo the American evangelist said,
These issues are biblical issues: to care for the sick, to feed the hungry, to stand up for the oppressed.”

This is what to me defines a true Christian.

Every oppressive government that has ever arisen has fallen. Those who have come to power by the sword have eventually died by the sword.
One only has to look at Hitler and other repressive regimes throughout history. It will be the same with those terrorist groups who wish to force their will on others by the barrel of a gun. They will not survive.
The terrorist who are killing innocent people supposedly in the name of God will one day stand before God and be cast into Hell.
Alexander the great, Napoleon and Hitler prove you cannot hold the world by force. Christ set the example as to how to win the world.
Napoleon was right when he said,
“I know men and I tell you, Jesus Christ is no mere man. Between him and every other person in the world there is no possible term of comparison. Alexander, Caesar, Charlemagne, and I have founded empires. But on what did we rest the creations of our genius? Upon force. 
Jesus Christ founded his empire upon love; and at this hour, millions would die for him.”
You cannot have a successful government founded on force. It is doomed to failure either from within or with forces that come from without.
The Apostle Paul wrote,
“If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.”
                                                                                                   Romans 12:18.
By living peacefully and presenting their beliefs in a simple manner the followers of Christ filled the Roman Empire with their beliefs in little more than seventy years. Since then the love of Jesus Christ has reached every corner of the earth.
The true believers in Christ followed the word of the Jesus who wen asked,
“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” 
Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’  
This is the first and greatest commandment.  
And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’  
All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”                                                                                                                                              Matthew 22:36-40
Jesus also said,
“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’  
But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.”
                    Matthew 5:43-45
Loving period is a concept foreign to terrorist and dictators. Yet to date the love of Christ has won more people to His cause than any one using a gun.
I truly believe the words of Ecclesiastes,
“Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole  duty  of man. 
For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil.” 
Ecclesiastes 12:13,14
God will bring all deeds of every person into judgement no matter what it is and on that day many will be shocked to find out their fate.
What will yours be?
Will you accept Christ into your life today?
Jesus said,

Why I talk about Jesus

Why I talk about Jesus
I believe Jesus like all Christians believe. I believe Jesus when he said,
“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field. 
“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls.  
When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.” 
                                                                                                         Matthew 13:44-46.
Think about it like this.
If you knew something that could change the life of someone for the better, or something that could save a life, wouldn’t you want to tell people about it?
That is what Christians believe. We believe that a true personal relationship with Jesus Christ can change your life. It can also assure you of where you will spend eternity.
Jesus said,
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” 
        John 3:16-17
Being a Christian is knowing God the very creator of the universe. The gospel of John stating,
“In the beginning was the Word,(Jesus) and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  
He was with God in the beginning. 
Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.  
In him was life, and that life was the light of men....  
He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him.  
He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.  
Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—  children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.” 
              John 1:1-4, 10-13.
This is why Christians want to tell everyone about their faith.
Jesus said,
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  
For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” 
                                                          Matthew 11:28-30.
From a personal prospective I can testify that to the above statement. I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Saviour when I was nineteen. I’m sixty plus now so I’ve had a life time of experience with respect to knowing what it’s like to follow Jesus.
In my life I have gone through many tragedies. I have survived cancer and I live each day with Bi-polar affective disorder (manic depression) along with an anxiety disorder, something that at times has drove me to the point of suicide.
I firmly believe that it is because of my personal relationship with Jesus that I have not committed suicide.
Jesus has been their for me through my darkest hours. I
I remember when I got the diagnosis for my cancer praying and asking for God’s peace. He answered my prayer and all went well.
A few weeks later as a side effect of the operation I was rushed to the hospital with blood clots on my lungs that almost killed me. Again I turned it all over the Jesus. Again I had a peace that passed understanding.
And remember through all of this I still had the Bi-polar disorder and the anxiety disorder that magnifies the worry, yet Jesus gave me peace.
I do not believe in forcing my faith on anyone. God gave everyone freedom of choice. That means they have the right to believe in Him and believe Jesus is the Son of God the Saviour of mankind, or not to believe.
The choice is yours. I can only say Jesus has had a profound effect on my life no matter the circumstance.
I leave the choice to accept Jesus into your life up to you.

A Truth

A truth

“What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun”...
I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.”
Ecclesiastes 1:9,14.
Does your life seem like you are chasing after the wind? Does your life have meaning?
I would go as far as saying most people live their life in relative obscurity. They are born and die within a few hundred kilometres of where they were they were born. Throughout their life they may travel to different places but they are known to few.
The accomplishments of the average person are minor and although they may have brought a great deal of joy and happiness into the lives of those around them. Within a hundred years of their death they are only remembered if they are lucky by a name on a tombstone.
 A few years ago as the Voyager space craft was billions of Kilometres  from our solar system, NASA turned it around and it took a picture of Earth. It was described as a pail blue dot. That dot is not much bigger than the head of a pin.
It shows that in the vastness of space earth is very small yet it is where we live. It is where all of mankind since the dawn of time have lived.
If there is no God we as a species could pass into eternity and no one would ever know.
I believe there is however a God who loves and cares for us. A God who created not only that pale blue dot but he universe and everything in it.
He is a God who cares so much He, in the form of Jesus Christ, entered the world to show the world that he cared for each and every person.
John’s gospel records,
“In the beginning was the Word,(Jesus) and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men.”
Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—  children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God. 
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” 
                                                                                      John 1:1-4, 12-14.
It was this Jesus who said,            
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.  Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son”.

It is through Jesus we can have a fulfilling life.
 Jesus said,
“...I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
                                                                                      John 10:10.
I as a Christian have found those words to be true.
The word I quoted above I believe to be completely true. The apostle John saying,
“Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—  children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.”
I know that this may not make sense to those who don’t know Christ but the apostle Paul even noted,
“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”
                        1 Corinthians 1:18
Ultimately it comes down to an act of faith. Either you believe Jesus is all he said he is or you do not it is your choice. The writer of Hebrews stating,
"And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him"
                                  Hebrews 11:6
"Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see."

The Eternal Choice

The Eternal Choice,

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven: 

a time

 to be born and a time to die, 

a time 

to plant and a time to uproot, 

a time 

to kill and a time to heal, 

a time 

to tear down and a time to build, 

a time 

to weep and a time to laugh, 

a time 

to mourn and a time to dance, 

a time 

to scatter stones and a time to gather them, 

a time 

to embrace and a time to refrain, 

a time

 to search and a time to give up,

 a time 

to keep and a time to throw away, 

a time 

to tear and a time to mend, 

a time 

to be silent and a time to speak, 

a time 

to love and a time to hate, 

a time

 for war and a time for peace.” 

                                                                                      Ecclesiastes 3:2-8.
History if nothing else has shown us that the writer of Ecclesiastes is right. I also believe there is a time coming when God will judge each and every individual.
The Apostle Paul speaking in Athens gave this message ,that is as relevant today as it was when he spoke it. The book of acts records,
“Paul then stood up in the meeting of the Areopagus and said: “Men of Athens! I see that in every way you are very religious.  
For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. Now what you worship as something unknown I am going to proclaim to you. 
“The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands.  
And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else.  
From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live.  
God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us.  
‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’ 
“Therefore since we are God’s offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone—an image made by man’s design and skill.  
In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent.  
For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to all men by raising him from the dead.” 
When they heard about the resurrection of the dead, some of them sneered, but others said, “We want to hear you again on this subject.”  
At that, Paul left the Council.  
A few men became followers of Paul and believed. Among them was Dionysius, a member of the Areopagus, also a woman named Damaris, and a number of others.”
                                                                                              Acts 17:22-34.
You dear reader and the people today must make the same choice the people of Athens had to make.

Words from the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America July 4 1776.
Noble words. Words much of the world aspire to.
Words while not from the Bible echo it’s sentiments.
Under God all men are equal. They have a freewill. That freewill allows them to believe in God or not. To do with their life as they wish. To follow a path they feel is right for them even if it is contrary to what God wishes.
Abba Hillel Silver wrote,
“Faith in God is the strongest bulwark of a free society.  Human freedom began when men became conscious that over and above society and nature there is a God who created them...who fashioned them in His likeness, and that they are, therefore, possessed of intrinsic and independent significance and are endowed, as individuals, with original and irrevocable rights and authority.”

One of those rights is to reject God.
As a Christian I have no right to force my beliefs on anyone. All I can do is present what I believe to people. It is their right to accept or reject it.
God it is true wants all people everywhere to turn to Him. To have a personal relationship with Him. But He wants them to come into that relationship of their own freewill. A person forced to make a decision will not necessarily make a sincere decision.
I as a Christian believe that we must make our decision in this life where we will spend eternity. As a result I feel I am obligated to tell the world about Jesus.
Perhaps the best message ever presented to non-Christians was presented by the Apostle Paul while in Athens. A place in the ancient world where people were free to think as they wished and exchanged views on just about everything.
The Book of acts records,
“So he (Paul) reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews and the God-fearing Greeks, as well as in the marketplace day by day with those who happened to be there.  
A group of Epicurean and Stoic philosophers began to dispute with him. Some of them asked, “What is this babbler trying to say?” Others remarked, “He seems to be advocating foreign gods.” They said this because Paul was preaching the good news about Jesus and the resurrection.  
Then they took him and brought him to a meeting of the Areopagus, where they said to him, “May we know what this new teaching is that you are presenting?  
You are bringing some strange ideas to our ears, and we want to know what they mean.”  
(All the Athenians and the foreigners who lived there spent their time doing nothing but talking about and listening to the latest ideas.) 
Paul then stood up in the meeting of the Areopagus and said: “Men of Athens! I see that in every way you are very religious.  
For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. Now what you worship as something unknown I am going to proclaim to you.

“Now a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?” 
“Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, obey the commandments.” 
“Which ones?” the man inquired. Jesus replied, “ ‘Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony,  honor your father and mother,’ and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’’” 
“All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?” 
Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” 
When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. 
Then Jesus said to his disciples, “I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.  
Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” 
When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, “Who then can be saved?” 
Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” 
Matthew 19:16-26.
Here is a simple story about faith in Christ. It comes down to what you consider the most important thing in life, God or your possessions and lifestyle.
This young man had wealth, the wealth bought him a good lifestyle.
Intellectually he obeyed the law but that it seems is where it ends. He didn’t have the faith to give up all he owned and follow Christ. He lacked the faith that if he followed Christ, God would supply his needs.
Now let me make things clear hear there is nothing wrong with being rich. Paul writing to Timothy says,
“For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.” 
                                                                                         1 Timothy 6:10.
This I think was part of the problem with the young man who came to Christ. He loved his money, his possessions. His faith was in his possessions.
There are a lot of wealthy people in the church today as there was in the early church. It was the wealthy in the early church that help fund its expansion. The church needs people who are willing to give of their wealth to help with Evangelism and the building up of the church.
Still a true person of faith should not be relying on their material goods. Their faith like everyone else’s should be in God.
The hardest thing a person can do is follow Christ by faith especially if you’re use to having wealth. But if you put your trust truly in God you will not be let down. He will supply all your needs.
So dear Christian where is your faith?

Why Jesus came

“While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and “sinners” came and ate with him and his disciples.  
When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and ‘sinners’?” 
On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.  
But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” 
          Matthew 9:10-13.
Here is why Jesus came to save sinners. The Apostle Paul states,
“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” 
                                                               Romans 3:23,24
Paul also notes,
“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” 
Romans 5:8.
God reached down to man. Man who had fallen short of what God wanted for his life.
Unless we as individuals admit we are sinners, humble ourselves before God and confess those sins we cannot enter the kingdom of heaven.
It is by the grace of God that we get to heaven Paul writing to the Ephesians states,
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—  not by works, so that no one can boast.”
                                                                Ephesians 2:8,9.
We must accept that saving grace. We must admit that we are sinners and dependent on the grace of God to forgive our sins and let us into the Kingdom of Heaven. We cannot live a life good enough to enter heaven simply because we are humans and are far from perfect.
The apostle John writes,
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.  
If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.” 
1John 1:9-10.
Anyone can know today that they are going to heaven. All they have to do is admit Jesus is the one and Only Son of God. That He came to earth to die for your sins. Then confess those sins directly to God asking his forgiveness. Then ask Jesus into your heart and life. A prayer as simple as this,
Dear Heavenly Father.
I believe in you. I believe Jesus is your one and Only Son. That He came into this world to die for my sins. I admit that I am a sinner and ask you to forgive them.
Please dear Lord Jesus come into my heart and life this day. Teach me your ways show me how I can serve you.
                   Amen.
If you said that prayer and meant it. I urge you to start reading the New Testament. Then I suggest you find a church congregation that you can be a part of.
I always suggest Baptist churches because they are consistent in what they believe and practice. In North America I also recommend the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada in Canada and the Assemblies of God in the United States. All believe the Bible and do their best to follow its teachings correctly.
I recommend that you also speak to the pastor of the church. All good and honest pastors will agree to meet with you. Ask questions. If you don’t understand the answer ask for clarification.
If you don’t like what you hear look for another congregation.
Also remember each church congregation even within a denomination has its own flavour so to speak. Some are lively others more conservative in worship. Some are very formal while others are less so.
So if you don’t find the first church you go to your liking try others.

A Personal God

A personal God

Genesis states,
“the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.” 
                                                                            Genesis 2:7
When God made man, He created man that He could have a personal relationship with man. Not as one has with a pet or a robot. God gave man the ability to think logically. He also gave man a freewill. Man the right to choose between right and wrong.
Man chose wrong in disobeying God’s and thus was banished from the garden.
God however still wants to have a personal relationship with man. That’s why He chose the Abraham. Through Abraham all the world would be blessed.
That’s why God instituted the practice of sacrifices to cover the sins of man. That each and every man would realize they are sinners in need of God’s forgiveness.
Today Jews all over the world celebrate Yom Kippur the day of atonement.
Yom Kippur as I understand it was instituted as a time each year when each person confesses their sins to God asking His forgiveness.  It is as I understand a persons last appeal, a last chance to change the judgment, to demonstrate their repentance and make amends.
As a Christian I believe God took things one step further.
God in the form of Jesus entered this world to show not just mankind in general how far he would go to have that personal relationship with him. But to show each and every person how far He would go to have a personal relationship with them.
The other reason I believe God in the form of Jesus had to enter the world was to prove he was a just God.
A God who is everything Christians and Jews believe, all powerful, all knowing omnipresent etc. I believe, realized that man could stand in front of him and quite rightly say, “you do not understand fully understand what it is to be human. Intellectually you may understand, but because you have only experienced absolute power you don’t fully understand.”
In coming to this world in the form of Jesus, God experienced from a human prospective what it is like to be human. He felt everything from the mundane things such as sun on His face to the rain. He experienced the joys of life, the love of devout parents and friends. At the same time he experienced what it was like to be rejected, persecuted, brutally beaten and put to death for a crime he didn’t commit. Put to death for simply political expediency.
And he did all this that we may be reconciled to God.
The Apostle Paul states,
“You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.  
Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die.  
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 
Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him!  
For if, when we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!  
Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.”
                                              Romans 5:6-11
Jesus himself said,
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.”
        John 3:16,17.
Now I know those who are not Christians will disagree with what I have said. And I personally cannot change anyone’s mind. I as a believer in Jesus believe however have an obligation to say what I have said.
It is between God and the individual reading this to decide for themselves if what I have said is right or wrong.

“In the beginning was the Word,  and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men....
He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.  
Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God. 
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

Here is a claim Christians make if not true makes no difference at all. The “Word”, Jesus became flesh, God in the form of Jesus came into this world. If true however it gives a lot of people something to think about.
I as a Christian believe that He came to experience what it is like to be human. So that no man or woman could stand before Him on judgement day and say “you do not understand what it is like to be human.”
In coming to the world Jesus knows everything it is to be human.
He grew up in an average family. Most likely religious, because his mothers cousin was the wife of a priest and gave birth to John the Baptist. It is also recorded when he was in his early teens he went up to the Jerusalem with his parents and was found sitting with the learned men of his day discussing scripture.
He would have experienced the day to day things of life at that time. Everything from the sun and rain on his face. He most likely helped his earthly father work at his carpenters shop.
We know he attended a wedding. We know as an enfant his parents had to take him to Egypt so that he wouldn’t be killed. That strictly speaking makes him a political refugee.
Then on top of all of this when he spoke the truth from the scriptures religious leaders of his day disagreed with him. They seen him as a threat to their authority had him arrested placed before what amounted to a kangaroo court. An illegally convened court. Turned over to the occupying  power Rome, where he was flogged. With the Roman governor ordering his execution for political expediency.
I believe in a just God and you can’t get any more just than the God who created heaven and earth entering his creation to experience what it is like to be human.
This God I worship is a God of Love who tells me why he came to earth. Why people should believe in Him and the consequences of unbelief when Jesus said,
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.  
Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son."

Politicians and others, even terrorist groups want to leave a legacy to the world. Sadly all too many times that legacy is negative. Hitler and his henchmen left a legacy of genocide and destruction in their attempt to build the thousand year Reich. In today’s world the Islamic state are doing the same.
There are of course men and women who have left positive legacies. Churchill who stood up to Hitler. Mother Teresa who cared for the poor. These are legacies that will be remembered in history.
But no legacy is greater than that of Jesus Christ. He literally changed the world. His legacy is eternal.  James Alan Francis in the 1920's wrote of Jesus,
“Nearly two thousand years ago in an obscure village, a child was born of a peasant woman. He grew up in another village where He worked as a carpenter until He was thirty. Then for three years He became an itinerant preacher.
This man never went to college or seminary. He never wrote a book. He never held a public office. He never had a family nor owned a home. He never put His foot inside a big city nor travelled even 200 miles from His birthplace. And though He never did any of the things that usually accompany greatness, throngs of people followed Him. He had no credentials but Himself.
While He was still young, the tide of public opinion turned against Him. His followers ran away. He was turned over to His enemies and sentenced to death on a cross between two thieves. While He was dying, His executioners gambled for the only piece of property He had on earth – the simple coat He had worn. His body was laid in a borrowed grave provided by a compassionate friend.
But three days later this Man arose from the dead – living proof that He was, as He had claimed, the Saviour whom God had sent, the Incarnate Son of God.
Nineteen centuries have come and gone and today the risen Lord Jesus Christ is the central figure of the human race. On our calendars His birth divides history into two eras. One day of every week is set aside in remembrance of Him. And our two most important holidays celebrate His birth and resurrection. On church steeples around the world, His cross has become the symbol of victory over sin and death.”

Think of it Jesus never raised a sword in anger yet today approximately two and a half billion people believe in him.
Napoleon got it right when he said,

Force of arms does not change the hearts of men only love can do that.
Jesus said,
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

The Apostle Paul writing to the Romans said,
“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” 
Romans 5:8.
This is the difference between Jesus and the leaders of any movement. Christ died for those He knew were sinners. Not only that He died for the sins of those sinners. He could do this because He was the one and only Son of God.
C. S. Lewis said,
“The Christian does not think God will love us because we are good, but that God will make us good because He loves us.”

Lewis also points out,
“He (Jesus) died not for men, but for each man. If each man had been the only man made, He would have done no less.” 
                                    C.S. Lewis.
This is something no leader of any terrorist group today I’m sure would ever do. Jesus however proved he loved us by dying for us. For each and every man and woman.
Jesus died for you.
The Apostle Paul wrote,

Julian the Apostate who was Roman Emperor from 361-363 A.D. a vehement adversary of Christianity wrote in his works against Christianity,
“Jesus...has now been celebrated about three hundred years having done nothing in his lifetime worthy of fame, unless anyone thinks it is a very great work to heal the lame and blind people and exorcise demoniacs in the villages of Bethsaida and Bethany”
At the end of his life he said, “Thou has conquered, O Galilean!”
Julian also confirmed to authenticity of the four gospels.
No one be they a Non-Christian of another faith or Atheist can deny the effect Jesus had on history.

People for centuries have spoken out against Jesus and Christianity its enemies have said it will die out from the moment it started but it hasn’t.
The book of Acts record what happened when two of Jesus disciples were brought before the religious authorities for preaching in the name of Jesus it records
“We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name,” he said. “Yet you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and are determined to make us guilty of this man’s blood.” 
Peter and the other apostles replied: “We must obey God rather than men!  
The God of our fathers raised Jesus from the dead—whom you had killed by hanging him on a tree.  God exalted him to his own right hand as Prince and Savior that he might give repentance and forgiveness of sins to Israel.  
We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.” 
When they heard this, they were furious and wanted to put them to death.  
But a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law, who was honored by all the people, stood up in the Sanhedrin and ordered that the men be put outside for a little while.  
Then he addressed them: “Men of Israel, consider carefully what you intend to do to these men.  
Some time ago Theudas appeared, claiming to be somebody, and about four hundred men
rallied to him. He was killed, all his followers were dispersed, and it all came to nothing.  
After him, Judas the Galilean appeared in the days of the census and led a band of people in revolt. He too was killed, and all his followers were scattered.  
Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail.  
But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God.” 
                Acts 5:28-39.
Gamaliel was right to fight against Christianity is futile because it is of God.
God started his redemptive work with Abraham, Moses and the Jewish nation. God however loves the entire world thus he sent his one and only Son through the line of David that all the world may be blessed and have the opportunity to come to know him.
Those today be they the terrorist of this world. Be they Atheist or others who would deny Christ and come against Him are I firmly believe fighting against God.
I firmly believe those who do not believe in Christ will one day be shocked to find themselves standing before Jesus.
Jesus himself when asked who he was said,
“The Jews gathered around him, saying, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly.” 
Jesus answered, “I did tell you, but you do not believe. The miracles I do in my Father’s name speak for me, but you do not believe because you are not my sheep.  
My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.  
I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand.  
My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.  
I and the Father are one.” 
                           John 10:24-30
I think C.S. Lewis summed up Jesus and Christianity best when he wrote,
“I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept his claim to be God. That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic — on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg — or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God, but let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.”

Jesus made one thing clear. God loves us and He gave us a choice when he said,
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.  Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.”
