Without regret

  Without regret

In the book of Joshua we read,

"Now fear the LORD and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your forefathers worshiped beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD.

But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living.

But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD." Joshua 24: 14,15.

Who do you serve? There are many people calling themselves Christians today who are not serving God. They are serving the Gods of this world. Materialism and money being chief among them.

Now there’s nothing wrong with having a lot of money and possessions. It’s the emphasis you put on them that can make them gods.

Matthews gospel tells of a rich young man who came to Jesus. Matthew records,

"Now a man came up to Jesus and asked, "Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?" "Why do you ask me about what is good?" Jesus replied. "There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, obey the commandments."

"Which ones?" the man inquired. Jesus replied, " ‘Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony,  honor your father and mother,' and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.''"

"All these I have kept," the young man said. "What do I still lack?"

Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."

When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth." Matthew 19:16-22.

I think every one who claims to be a Christian. A follower of Christ Jesus needs to ask the question; “could I give everything I own away and still follow Jesus with no regrets?”

Could you?

Please think about it.

Turning from

 Turning from

The Psalmist writes,

"I will praise you, O LORD, with all my heart;

 before the "gods"

I will sing your praise.”

                                     Psalm 138:1.

Whether we like to admit it or not there are a lot of gods in twenty-first century society. Money, possessions, even adoration of sports, entertainment, and political figures to name a few.

As believers in Christ Jesus. As true Christians we need to shun these gods.

We need to be praising our God. The LORD of lords and King of kings. The LORD GOD ALMIGHTY.

Are you doing this?

Are you turning from the gods of this world and praising THE LORD GOD ALMIGHTY?

Please think about it.

You shall

  You shall

In the book of Exodus we read,

“You shall have no other gods before me.”

                                                      Exodus 20:3.

So my question to you the reader especially if you consider yourself a Christian; do you have any other gods in your life.

Simply put other gods in the twenty-first century is anything in your life that comes before God. That can be anything from your political views, to sports, to hobbies, to money or the making of money beyond what you really need.

Sadly may calling themselves Christians in especially North America have many gods in their lives and quite often don’t realize it. That’s why at times we need to sit down in a quiet place pray and ask God to show us what we are putting before Him

In the book of Joshua we read,

“Now fear the LORD and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your forefathers worshipped beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD.

But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” Joshua 24: 14,15.

Please think about it.

No other gods

 No other Gods

In the book of Exodus we read,

And God spoke all these words:

"I am the LORD your God,

who brought you out of Egypt,

out of the land of slavery.

"You shall have no other gods before me.

                                                       Exodus 20:1-3

What constitutes a god in the twenty-first century. The way I see it is a god is anything you put ahead of The Lord God Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

The one big thing I see more so in the United States than in Canada is their constitutional rights. The constitution of the United States give each individual certain rights. Which is a good thing. The trouble comes when an individual puts their rights ahead of what God tells us to do in the scriptures.

We don’t see the guarantee of individual rights in the Bible. In the bible we read,

"Let each of you look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others." Philippians 2:4.

We are called to look to the interest of others. Which means even if we have certain rights guaranteed by the laws of the country in which we live, we have an obligation to God and our fellow man to put others interests above ourselves.

Do you?

Please think about it.
