Church Hoppers

Church Hoppers
The apostle Paul writes,
“For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.
They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.” 2Timothy 4:3,4.
I live in a community of around 120,000 people. In our city there is it seems a large church on every second corner and dozens upon dozens of small churches sprinkled liberally in every neighbourhood.
Having so many churches sounds in many ways a good thing. It allows individuals to find a church that best fits the way they like to worship and be taught
On the down side many of those churches big and small are deliberately or out of ignorance of the scriptures not presenting the word of God correctly.
The apostle Paul writing to Timothy said,
“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.” 2Timothy 2:15.
That being said we have many people within the church community that we refer to as Church hoppers. People who move from church to church.
Some are truly looking for a church that is truly presenting the gospel message truthfully and in the spirit God mean it to be presented.
Sadly others are bouncing from church to church to get their “feel good fix” of the day. Looking for a church that makes them feel good all over. As one person put it, “gives them a warm fuzzy feeling.
Other people are outrightly rejecting Biblical truths looking for a church who tells them what they want to hear.
Saint Augustine said of such people,
“If you believe what you like in the gospels,
and reject what you don’t like,
it is not the gospel you believe,
but yourself.”
                             St Augustine
My question to anyone reading this who claims to be a Christian, is why do you go to church?
The reason I ask the question is a simple one. Your place in eternity may rest upon your answer.
Please think about it.
